Most find it hard to believe, but In 1951 US Congress enacted a financial benefit for Veterans and their surviving spouses. This pension is not dependent upon service-related injuries to qualify.

The Aid & Attendant pension is a non-service connected benefit. The Department of Veterans Affairs is in charge of the "Aid & Attendance" pension which pays for personal in home attendant care services.

Country Care Companions, a rural Texas home care provider authorized to work under the VetAssist Program of Veterans Home Care, LLC, can provide assistance to veterans or surviving spouses who quality, with no out-of-pocket costs to them for their care.

If the applicant has limited financial resources, is a veteran who served at least 90 days on active duty with at least one day of service during war time, or the surviving spouse of a veteran and is in need of assistance at home due to sickness causing disabilities; we may be able to help you qualify for this earned benefit.

If you qualify for "Aid and Attendance" benefit, Country Care Companions and Veterans Home Care can help you with the following in home non-medical care services:

        • Light Housekeeping
        • Laundry and Changing of Bed Linins
        • Grocery Shopping
        • Meal Preparation
        • Medication Reminders
        • Help with Bathing, Grooming and Dressing
        • Transportation to Doctor appointments and Social Events
        • Transferring to and from bed or chair
        • Respite Care for Family Members
        • Companionship



Eligibility Requirements for VA Pension-Aid and Attendance

The Three "M's"


    • Applicant must be a Veteran or Surviving Spouse of a Veteran
    • 90 days or more of active duty service
    • One day minimum served during a wartime
    • Honorable discharge


    • Applicant must be 60% home-bound or more, no longer driving, and requires assistance with activities of daily living (non-medical care in the home setting).
    • The disability or medical need must be non-service related.  


    • The Aid and Attendance pension is designed to bring the applicants income up to the maximum pension amount set by Congress.
    • One home and care are excluded from asset limitations.
    • Total assets include cash, IRAs, stocks and bonds, other property etc. (The older the applicant the smaller the allowable asset amount.)
    • Ongoing non-reimbursed monthly medical expenses must exceed available gross income by 5 percent.  

Aid & Attendance Qualifying War Periods

    • World War II:                    12/07/1941 to 12/31/1946
    • Korean Conflict:               06/27/1950 to 01/31/1955
    • Vietnam Era:                     02/28/1961 to 05/07/1975
    • Persian Gulf War:             08/02/1990 Two years consecutively served. End date to be determined by law or Presidential proclamation.

Aid & Attendance Maximum Pension Amounts:

    • Veteran                                $1732.00
    • Surviving Spouse               $1113.00
    • Veteran plus Spouse         $2054.00
    • Two Veterans Married       $2720.00
    • and this is a TAX FREE Benefit!
